Rollover Crash injures one

The Ambulance, Rescue/Engine and Chief along with ALS responded to this MVC with rollover in the 1000 block of Montgomery Rd early this morning. One patient remained in the vehicle until the Rescue/Engine could stabilize the vehicle and safely remove the patient.


WPD Officer Giles Welcomed Home

This afternoon a group of members made their way to the Christiana Hospital to support one of the injured WPD officers, who is also one of our own, while he was being released from the hospital, and escorted home. Again, we wish him, and all of those involved all of the best, and for a speedy recovery. #wpd #thebigE

1 Airlifted from Crash

This morning around 11:15hrs, the Station was alerted along with New Castle County Paramedics for an MVC with a subject trapped. Upon arrival, crews found a single vehicle crash and reported negative entrapment. The patient was found to be seriously injured and was transported to the trauma center by the Delaware State Police Helicopter Trooper 4.

Kirkwood Hwy Fatal Crash

This afternoon just before 16:00hrs, Rescue-Engine 16 and A-16 responded to Kirkwood Hwy/Tamarrack Ave for an MVC. Units arrived to find a single vehicle vs a light pole. A front seat passenger in the vehicle was found to be in cardiac arrest and CPR efforts were immediately started. Three additional patients were also transported to area hospitals by A-17 (Five Points) and C-14 (Cranston Heights) along with New Castle County Paramedics. Despite efforts by those on scene, the front seat passenger was pronounced shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Firefighter Graduates Fire Academy

On Thursday May 27th 2021, Probationary Firefighter Joseph Smith graduated from the New Castle County Firefighter Academy Recruit Class 7. Joseph showed his pride and dedication by not only attending the Academy, but by continuing to push forward and attend all classes after suffering a fractured ankle during one of hands on training days. Joseph will now move on to complete his written and practical testing within the company to become an interior firefighter. Joseph’s family and several members were in attendance to watch him graduate. Congratulations Joseph Smith III, we’re all proud of you!

Talleyville Train Derailment

This evening Engine 16 responded to assist Station 25 (Talleyville) with a train derailment off Montchanin Rd. Units found 5 train cars overturned and off the track. No hazards were present and the scene was quickly scaled back.


William E. Thomas

The Officers and Members of the Elsmere Fire Company are saddened to announce the passing of Assistant Treasurer William E. Thomas. William, affectionately known to family and friends as "Wet" was a life member of both the Elsmere and Minquas Fire Companies. William actively served the Elsmere Fire Company for 40 years, and was also our Assistant Treasurer for the past 30 years. William began his career of public service as a dispatcher for the Delaware State Police, and then graduated from the police academy in 1978 as a Police Officer with the Elsmere Police Department. William was then later hired by the Delaware River and Bay Authority Police Department where he retired from, after 31 years of service. Information on funeral services will follow when released.


Laundromat Fire

This evening around 17:30hrs, Ladder 16 made the response as the first due special to assist Station 17 (Five Points) on a building fire. Crews arrived to find smoke showing, and found a dryer fire in the building. Fire was contained to the dryer.

Engine 16 was placed in service today by personnel from both Elsmere and Cranston Heights while units from the area operated in Chester County on multiple alarms.
